DISCUSSION ESSAY - MARTA ESTEVE OLIVÉS

In now a days in the sociality is very common that the people now speaks more than one language. Being bilingual is a usual thing, since now ,when you are born you learn two languages at the same time.

I think that be bilingual is a good advantage , because you can travel in many countries. Also be bilingual opens to you a lot of opportunities in the laboral world because it is highly valued, and this is good for yourself.

In the other hand if you learn a new language when you are old, you can mix the languages and this can confuse you , also you need a good memory to remember all the grammar and vocabulary.

My experience being bilingual is good because since that I was a kid I have practise catalan and spanish in the same level.

OPINION ESSAY - GERARD COT

French writer Antoine de Saint-Exupéry said that “the best things people have made [the airplane, the telephone...] are all things that bring people together.” Discuss this statement and say what are to your mind, the best things people have made. Would you say that Internet makes our social life richer or poorer?

According to Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, the most revolutionary inventions in the history of humanity have brought people together, in my opinion this is because of the newness of an invention and everyone wants to know how to use it and how useful it is.

Personally, I think that the best inventions that the human race has made are, all kinds of vehicles for transportation, because you can go to other cities and travel all around the world, another use is that it really safes people time going for example to work with a car or a bycicle rather than walking. Moreover, social media, internet and all kinds of new technologies because, on the one hand it keeps people connected and it helps to mantain relationships with people that you can't see very often. Also, social networks keep people informed of what is going on. 

On the other hand, I think that people is all day with their phone and that's not good because and we have to control the screen time that we spend everyday on electronic devices that distracts us of the things that we have to do, our goals, our dreams,... Another thing is that social media has made teenagers more lazy, because in today's society people prefer to talk with electronic devices rather than have a physical conversation and, as a result of this nowadays, teenagers don't know how to form deep meaningful relationships.

In conclusion, as millenials we have to learn how to make a good use of social media and cellphones and control screen time that we spend on social media mainly. And answering the question of the statement, I would say that Internet does not make our social life richer, because what we show on the Internet is not our real life. 

DISCUSSION ESSAY - SARA AVILES

We live in a globalized world, in which the english is becoming one of the most spoken languages. Being bilingual is obviusly beneficial, even though it has its downsides as well.

Firstly, being bilingual makes it easy to communicate between people from the other side of the world, as you may both speak a widespread language like english. Besides, it is useful in many different situations, such as travelling. 

On the other hand, the fact that the world is so globalized can affect the cultural diversity in a negative way, ending up causing the disappearance of minor languages which means a loss of culture enrichment.

In conclusion, despite the fact that being bilingual in a globalized world can be very practical, it is also disadvantageous for not so widely extended languages. 

INTERVIEW - MARTA ESTEVE OLIVÉS

Imagine you are a journalist. Write an interview with a European commissioner for the protection of minority languages. Your objective is to find out what the European Union is doing in order to protect the rights of those linguistic groups

M- Hello, today we are going to interview one of the most important people in the European Union, Jean-Claude Juncker.

Let's talk about the protection of minority languages.

M- Perfect! How are you Sir.Claude?

Sir.C- I'm nice, thank you, I am very grateful to be here with old of you and make this magnificent and interesting interview.

M- Thanks are ours. Okay, first of all, we will begin to explain what are the minority languages ?

Sir.C- Yes, of course, the minority language is a language that has a number of speakers inferior to other languages, either in a global perspective or in a given territory. In Europe we have eight types of minority languages, there are Catalan, Galician, German, Occitan, Sardinian and Irish, and if I do not remember it badly ... Basque and Welsh.

M- Sorry, but German is not an "official language"

Sir.C- Yes, yes, sorry, I wanted to refer to the German who speak outside Germany and Austria

M- And by curiosity... could you tell us which is the minority language who are more spoken in Europe?

Sir.C- First of all, we have Catalan with more than 7 million speakers and it is spoken in Spain, France, Italy and Andorra. And the least is Welsh with 500 thousand speakers and is spoken in the United Kingdom.

M - Is it incredible, and what think the Council of the European Union  about these languages? and his protection?

Sir.C- Well, the European union thinks that minority languages are very important, as they are part of the history of many countries. We believe that it is good to don't forget the origins of millions of people. On the other hand enrich a lot inside the culture of Europe ,and this is a good point to the European Union. The European Union it agrees , with the protection of this languages, if we eliminate them, we will put in disagree with a many speakers. In the European Union , we like listen our citizens.

M-What does the European Union to protect these languages?

Sir.C  -The role of the European Union is that the territories in which this minority language is spoken don't disappear , for example, using it with a publicity poster or teaching the language in the school

M – Is a magnific job! So thank you, Lord Claude, for your time, and to pay attention us. It's been a pleasure.

DIALOGUE - GERARD COT PALLARÉS

Two teachers are discussing the rights and wrongs of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as a school subject. Write down their conversation.

GERARD: Hi Dan, how are you?

DAN: Hi Gerard, I'm fine, and you?

GERARD: I'm good too, but I want to talk with you about ICT.

GERARD: So, recently I've been reading some articles about social network and internet. Some of them talk about how the internet harms teenagers and young generations more than they benefit them. For this reason I want to discuss a little bit the rights and wrongs of ICT.

DAN: It seems right to me, because nowadays teenagers are always connected to an electronic device and this isn't good for their health and relationships. So we have to put limits. 

GERARD: I agree with you, I thought we should only let them use the laptops when we say so, but also as teachers we have to try to make ICT interesting and entertaining.

DAN: Or maybe we could use a program that let us control their computers if we see someone that isn't paying attention.

GERARD: That's a good idea too, I'm going to write them down in a paper and we'll talk about this in tomorrow's meeting with the other teachers.

DAN: Ok! Gerard, I'll see you later, I have another meeting right now.

GERARD: See you later.

DAN: Bye!

DIALOGUE - SARA AVILÉS VALERO

Two teachers are discussing the rights and wrongs of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as a school subject.

SARAH: Yesterday I was watching the news and I saw a documentary about new technologies. It talked about how these affect young children and their mental development.

DAVID: It seems interesting. What did it say? I guess nothing good considering the way you’ve said it.

SARAH: Actually not, it criticized the massive use of these, mainly during childhood. Do you know how unhealthy and damaging it is to be exposed to these kinds of technologies during the first ten years of a kid’s life?

DAVID: Is it? I’ve heard something but I wasn’t aware of this health-related problems.

SARAH: It is quite harmful, and that’s why I wanted to propose I change in our students’ timetable. I think we should remove ICT classes.

DAVID: What are you talking about? ICT classes are very important for the future because nowadays technologies are the motor for the world.

SARAH: Don’t you think our students’ health should be our priority?

DAVID: Of course and it is, but you are making too much of this, it is not such a big deal.

OPINION ESSAY - TECNOLOGY

The chapter is about a world where everyone has the ability of replaying life moments. The main character is Liam.

Sometimes is better to forger or to not know many things you wouldn’t like to know, because that only makes you more miserable. We can see that       Liam grabs his wife’s chip and finds out that she had an affair with another man. That’s something he obviously had to know but being able to watch it isn’t good for him.

On the other hand, there is something even worse than that, and that is the fact that this technology can change the nature of life itself. Time goes on, and it is obviously not normal to be able to do that sort of thing. If our minds can’t recall every single moment of our life’s is because we are not bound to remember everything.

To sum up, I like to say that technology is a new form of living and it will changes our life’s.

OPINION ESSAY

Task: ''If life-replay technology was available, could we really be trusted not to drive mad with it, like poor old Liam?''

Some people wonder if we could be trusted to do a good use of life-replay technology if it was available. Because a lot of people think that this technology would not be used in a good way.

In my opinion, the human race could not be trusted to do only a good use of this technology, because most people would use it for things such as, spy other people, because humans are curious by nature and that's not bad but, if you start to stir in things of the past, you would find things that it would be better that you hadn't known, like it happened to Liam. 

However, I believe that it could be cool to see only the cool and happy things that you've done in the past and inmediatly delete all the bad memories. If this technology works like this in the future, I would be down to try it. Furthermore, if people do not remove the bad memories, I personally think that it could be another good way to learn of your mistakes, because if you take out all the horrible things that you've done, you may do it again.

In general, it seems to me that people could not be trusted with this life-replay technology as I said before, but it could be a cool way to see the happiest moments of your life.

At present I’m doing a master’s degree in primary education. When I was younger I used to play basketball and also I used to practise ballet Now I am really into horse riding and rock-climbing. Also have to say that I love going swimming to the beach.

Too add, I like work with the little’s of the house since I have one little sister and always I play with her , is this reason that I studying primary education.

I speak four languages; French, English, Catalan and Spanish. I took First Certificate exam. Now I’m learning German.

I'm Gerard and I am writing this to response to your invitation of your birthday party. The thing is that, I would like to go because I care about you but I don't get along with Marta, I don't like her and I think that she doesn't like me too.

I’m Sara, how are you? I’m writing you because as you know, Friday 17^th is my birthday and I want to invite you to my birthday party. My party will be on Friday night, at 23 pm in a restaurant next to my home. If you want, you can bring some drinks because in the menu the drinks aren’t included.

GEMMA'S 18th BIRTHDAY

 

Good night everybody .I’m Marta and I would first like to thank you all for stay here this special day. We are here to celebrate the 18th birthday of Gemma. I’m not really good doing speeches but Gemma is one of my best friends and I will try it.

 

First of all , I want to say that Gemma is one of my best friends and we know each other since we were two years old. She has been there in all the difficult moments that I had .She helped in all situations like, with  the family and friends .She bring me happiness , pace and certainty. Also I want to remember  all the travels that I had done with her. We had travelled to Milan, Brussels, Seville, the Basque country …. in old of this travels we fall in love with all the tourist. I’m very grateful to have her in my life.

 

Finally, I just want to say that she is one part of my life and I don’t want to lose her. I hope that our relationship never ends.
